What should UK families look for in a shared shopping list app?

    • A house with both iPhones and Android phones. Check each app runs on every phone in the house, or has a web version.
    • Whether each person needs their own account, or the household shares one login.
    • Ads in the free version, and whether one upgrade removes them for everyone.
    • Who sees what. A list shared with flatmates or colleagues may not be the one the children should see.
    • Whether the list sits next to the meal plan and the calendar, so the week's dinners and the shop are planned together.

    Frequently asked questions

Which shopping list apps can a family share for free?

Bring!, AnyList and OurGroceries all let you share lists in their free versions, according to their own pages and UK App Store listings. Bring! and OurGroceries show ads. Haevn has no free tier: it is 14 days free, no card needed, then £6.99 a month or £69.99 a year.

Does everyone need the same email to share a list?

It depends on the app. OurGroceries' user guide says a household shares one account login. The other apps on this page do not say on the pages we checked. In Haevn, anyone in the household can add to Lists and everyone can see them.

Can an iPhone and an Android phone share one shopping list?

Yes. AnyList and OurGroceries list both iPhone and Android, and Bring! has a web version. Haevn has no native apps yet; it runs in the browser on both and installs to the home screen.

Is there a shopping list app without ads?

Haevn has no ads. OurGroceries removes ads for everyone you share with once one person upgrades. Bring!'s UK App Store listing shows it contains advertising. Whether AnyList's free version has ads is not stated on the pages we checked.

Do I need a separate shopping list app if we use a family organiser?

Not always. Haevn, Cozi and FamilyWall include shopping lists alongside the calendar. A dedicated list app makes sense if a list is all you want, or if you want features like Alexa support.
